Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has a very diverse population and has strong arts and science programs. Until now these two fields have been separate, but working together our departments have approved a course to fuse the two. We need books to help turn students into kinetic artists, where physics and art are one.

Our school is wonderfully diverse.

Half of our students are on free and reduced price lunch plans and we have a significant English Language Learner population. It is common to have children of doctors in classes with children whose parents have not graduated high school. I love our campus because our students get along with each other and recognize the potential to learn from others. We are introducing a new course on campus called MADE (Mechanical, Arts, Design, and Engineering). This is very exciting because it is a physical science course with a strong emphasis on arts. Our students are very interested in engineering, and next year is the first year we will offer this class. It will be an opportunity to interest art students in science and science students in art. We are excited for students to continue learning from and supporting one another.

My Project

The text, Making Things Move, will be used as a resource for the MADE course. This book gets great reviews and it is very student friendly. It is full of projects that our students can use as starting boards when they are first beginning to create. We are excited to see what creations students will be able to make using the text as a resource.
