A donation of a small amount of graphing calculator technology will help my students use math to open up a world of opportunities in their future. My high school in the Bronx is in its first year and does not have money in the budget to afford calculators because of all of the costs associated with opening. Our school has a number of great virtues, including its very small class size of twenty students and freedom of curriculum in the classroom. Unfortunately, the founding ninth graders will be unable to begin using calculators until we can purchase some classroom sets in one to two years. This is a very difficult position for these ninth graders because next year they must take New York State's Regents Math A test, with little to no practice using these powerful tools. As much as they need the calculators in time for the test, they also need to be as familiar with them as they are with a pencil and paper. To help our ninth graders become familiar with the calculator, until we purchase our own calculators, a TI-Viewscreen and TI-84 plus calculator would allow my class access to the power of graphing calculators. The viewscreen panel works with an overhead projector to enlarge and project the image of the TI calculator screen so the entire class can see and grasp what you're presenting. This technology can also be used with two older TI models of calculators to allow an entire class to be able to engage in a lesson using these tools. Please help our school with this donation of graphing calculator technology. It will go along way toward helping our students do their best on next year's exam, and in their future math experiences.
