My Project
At my school, students in advanced classes are usually able to purchase books for class without issue, and are used to doing so. However, the general-level classes are the complete opposite. Some students are underprivileged and unable to purchase class materials. As a result, it is much more important for the school to provide reading materials and textbooks. My general level 10th Grade Literature class is reading Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi this semester. My school only has one class set of novels.
I would like to provide my students with a class set of the novel to allow them to have access to a hard copy as we read through.
Since it is a graphic novel, it is better for students to have access to a physical copy. A recent study found that students read digital book extracts significantly quicker than printed book extracts, but are much better at identifying key points and relevant information from reading in print than digitally reading. This is especially significant for general-level students, since they often struggle more with reading comprehension.
I am also asking for eight floor pillows to help create comfortable spaces for students to read in my classroom. I want my classroom to be as inviting as possible to help students feel at ease and comfortable when reading independently or with the class.
Please help my students get access to the resources they need.
