Research shows that independent reading increases student vocabulary, reading stamina, and student comprehension. My students read independently each day and have the opportunity to check out books from my classroom. While some students bring their own books, others get books from me. I need updated reading materials to pique student interest. I have chosen books with various topics that students will want to read instead of choosing something because they have no other options. Students share what they are reading, and I want them to encourage others to read more from my shelves.
