All of the students at my school come to the library for story time and/or to check out books. The teachers at my school are very consistent with library time and the students love it! Many of them don't get to frequent the local library and coming to the school library gives them a chance to have that experience. I have other students who do visit the local library and suggest some books that they would like to see in the library!
The funding for my library comes from the two book fairs that I put on during the school year.
This is my only source of funding for the library and that is primarily from the parents who come in to the book fair with their students and buy them books. I then receive proceeds from the book fair.
We are a Title I school so it can be difficult for parents to buy books for their students. Using the library gives these families a way to have books to read together.
My Project
My students just can't get enough information about dinosaurs and space! My first and second graders love to read non-fiction, especially about space and dinosaurs.
My older readers love the I Survived series and I would love to add the two latest books to my collection.
Getting students interested in reading consistently means having books on hand that are entertaining and relate to their interests. The Minecraft books encourage my students to read about a game they love to play! I have had many requests for these books.
I also have included some favorites like The Three Little Tamales and the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane because these well loved books are just plain worn out from wear in my library!
