Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Social and emotional learning (SEL) tools can play a transformative role for elementary students in lower socioeconomic schools by fostering critical life skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and effective communication. These tools foster a supportive learning environment that helps students manage stress, build positive relationships, and remain academically engaged, despite external challenges. By addressing both emotional well-being and social development, SEL helps close achievement gaps, improves classroom behavior, and promotes a stronger sense of community and resilience among students. I am a school social worker who fiercely believes that my students can learn how to find their voice and new skills through these materials instead of using their fists. Over 65% of my students come from a lower socio economic background and do not have the resources of stability to learn these skills at home. I am teaching them emotional regulation skills so they can make a direct impact to their behavior choices.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.
Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble stools are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
