This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 120, dedicated, math students who are all working so hard remotely.
My students' lives are hard enough - math needs to be fun and meaningful to them.
Some live in shelters, some are the main caretakers for younger siblings, and some do not know where their next meal is going to come from. Despite all of this, students come to my math class wanting to learn. Even with all of this hardship, my students are determined to succeed. Last year, our students grew an average of 1.4 grade levels in one school year. This year, I want all of my students to grow 1.6 grade levels.
My Project
Many of my students have been working remotely for the last year. They return to school next week and we need to make the bare classroom walls feel like home. The bulletin board set will remind students we learn from mistakes and the lamp will help create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Students can take ownership in the classroom by watering the plants which at the same time will help purify the air naturally.
Students need to be able to show what they know digitally with their peers for safety reasons, which this computer will allow.
After being isolated in front of a computer screen, students will come in excited to show their knowledge and share their experiences from the last year. With this document camera and computer, students can share their work in front of the classroom with their peers.
