Help Students De-Stress the Stress!

Help me give my students opportunities such as liquid fidget timers and relaxing water painting to help them de-stress, work through anxiety and support them safely to be successful at school through their academics and peer relationships.

My Students

I am the school counselor for a middle school that provides education for 425 students 5th through 8th grade. The students in this district come from predominantly lower socioeconomic households and too often experience trauma within their families.

The students at our school are constantly searching for healthy ways to express their feelings, engage with others in a positive manner, learn better decision-making skills and to feel safe.

These students work hard at improving their communication skills, identifying their thoughts and feelings, and using these skills to improve everyday interactions with others through character classes. Unfortunately, with many of the students struggling with additional stressors outside of school, the students often feel helpless, anxious, worried, angry and misunderstood.

My Project

Incorporating several options of stress relief, as well as fidgets, will allow the students ways to channel anxiety, nervousness, eagerness, scaredness and overwhelm into a more supportive and successful learning environment for academics and relationships.

Many of these students struggle with outside school stressors and issues such as poverty, divorce, substance abuse, and violence.

By providing additional stress relievers, the students can come to school and feel safe and know they are supported. The more the students feel safe, the better they will succeed in their educational endeavors.

When students enter my office, the more items they have available to focus on when communicating issues they have, the more safe and secure they may feel as well as allowing them to not feel awkward or uncomfortable.
