This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Advanced math classes require students to use a graphing calculator. Students that don't have one are at a disadvantage in class and when they are testing.

Ours is a public high school with a very diverse student body.

The diversity can be seen in both the ethnicity and economic levels of our students. However, all of them want to succeed and do well. There are many students that want to take advanced classes but the costs of these classes can hold them back.

My Project

In our advanced math classes, we try to make the subjects relevant to students by applying math to the real world. However, the real world is not made up of nice even numbers, and trying to work out 12.23*4.5^2 by hand while someone else has a calculator, puts a student at a great disadvantage. Therefore my students need calculators to be able to work with real world topics.

Having a class set of calculators will ensure that all students are on an even playing field.

All students will have access to the technology they need to do well in class. Lack of funds will not keep them from grasping the mathematical concepts they need to succeed.
