Help Students Build Their Body Of Knowledge With Body Books!
My students need books about the body to support curriculum as well as their insatiable appetite for gross facts.

My Students
I love when kids independently want to learn about a certain topic. I don't love when the books I have to offer them are outdated, worn, and above their reading level.
At both of my schools, I have second graders who are fascinated by the human body and have been taking out all the books we have on the topic.
Unfortunately, we actually only have about a dozen at each school, and according to a Titlewise collection analysis, 100% of them are "aged." They're also written at reading levels far above my students' abilities.
My Project
By adding the Blastoff Readers to our libraries, I will be able to confidently hand them over to my second graders; I actually have been using "The Skeletal System" volume (which I borrowed from the public library) for a bone research lesson with them, so I know that they can read these books.
The series would also come in handy for sixth graders when they do a body system research project in the classroom; they would be more likely to actually read a book, take notes, and put the information into their own words if it's at an easier reading level than what we currently have on the shelves.
Finally, the Gross Body Science books will appeal to all of my students; they have loved our Guinness World Record and Ripley's Believe it or Not books to shreds. This series uses the "Did you know?" and "Yuck!" approach that they love while teaching them information.
Adding new books about the human body to our library collections will bring this nonfiction section into the current decade, enabling students to satisfy their curiosity with interesting books written at their reading level.
