Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I school that serves students that face many social challenges. In spite of the struggles that they have, they are wonderful people who have so much to offer the world. They love science and I want to provide them with opportunities that they may not otherwise receive. Having the ability to watch and inquire about how and why things work the way they do provides even those students who struggle to read the ability to participate in their own learning. In many ways, science levels the academic playing field and shows students that they can be successful.

I love my students and want to give them every opportunity to rise above their challenges and achieve things that will surprise even them.

My Project

Young readers are often limited in the material that is available to them for reading. These books are needed to bring non-fiction ideas and materials to those that struggle the most to read. By using these books, I will be able to not only teach students to read better but also introduce them to non-fiction materials.

Allowing students to read books at their level and also store them safely for coming back to throughout the day, they will be able to take responsibility for their learning and push themselves to increase comprehension and be motivated to succeed.

Providing students with fresh and relevant material to read will increase their desire to do it.
