it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title I school that serves students that face many social challenges. In spite of the struggles that they have, they are wonderful people who have so much to offer the world. They love science and I want to provide them opportunities that they may not otherwise receive. Having the ability to watch and inquire about how and why things work the way they do provides even those students who struggle to read the ability to participate in their own learning. In many ways, science levels the academic playing field and shows students that they can be successful.
I love my students and want to give them every opportunity to rise above their challenges and achieve things that will surprise even them.
My Project
Many of my second grade students are reading far below grade level and need some assistance. By choosing good books that are full of interesting content, students will be encouraged to push themselves to read. Using non-fiction books, students will be able to learn valuable information while also developing their reading skills. These books will be very helpful as they are organized by reading level which correlates to the standardized testing that our district uses. It will help them pick the right book every time while also giving me the ability to monitor their reading level and progress. Keeping them in the provided bins will make sure that they are always reading and pushing themselves.
