I am beyond excited to teach in a Blended VPK class room for the 2018-19 school year. This group of 21 students, both special needs and typically developing, are happy, active, and eager to learn and grow.
The VPK year is full of ABCs and 123s, science, character development, and sensory play.
We are learning how to be students, how to be a friend, and independent skills as we play, dance, and sing our way through the day.
Our classroom is large and beautiful. We are so happy to have the room we need to spread out for learning and play centers. We use our center times to learn through play, attend small group instruction, complete independent work, and develop relationships.
Our class environment is perfect! Ideal class room size. Wonderful, smart students, centers to engage the children in learning activities, and an amazing para professional. We play well, sing and learn eagerly, and have a lot of fun, but our classroom has an echo that seems to double the sound level.
For a student with or without special needs, excess noise can cause sensory overload, limiting learning engagement.
We have tile floors with tall ceilings, and not enough ways to absorb the sound. One particular area has a ceiling that is 2 stories tall. We believe these sound panels will absorb the echo and decrease the background noise in our room.
The noise reduction will us to work better in small groups, large groups, and center work. Students will be better able to engage with less echo, and as a result will perform better in all areas, including testing.
