Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Please help today's 4th graders become involved in current issues both in their neighborhoods and around the world. I am a 4th grade general education teacher of 29 students who would love to help my students become more knowledgeable about the world around them.
I recently gave my students a bonus question on their spelling test asking them to name the capital of New York. Some of the answers I received broke my heart-New York City, Washington D.C., the Statue of Liberty. According to some of my students the country we live in is South America, New York, and Queens. Unfortunately many of my students come from homes in which parents work late and do not have much time to sit with their children and discuss things going on in today's society. Those students who do watch some evening news tend to remember such sad and violent stories. Most students have never read a newspaper.
With trying to pack so much into the day with reading, writing, math and science it is so difficult to fit social studies in, not to mention "fun" learning. With the "Time For Kids" subscription, students will be given the chance to learn about the world around them in an enjoyable way. There are so many important things going on around the world which the children should know about. This resource would give students the opportunity to become involved in current events. It would also give me as a teacher some comfort knowing that I am preparing students for both life as well as their 5th grade New York State Social Studies exam next November.
Your contribution would make such a difference for both myself and my students. It would make it possible for students to truly become involved in what is going on around them. Today's 4th graders will one day become full fledged adults. I want to be able to say that with your help, together, we have made a difference in someone's life! We as a class would be truly grateful for all that is provided to us!
