My students need a printer with ink and a protection plan so they can have full access to some of the technology resources we can provide for them as special needs students in a journalism school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I try and utilize the limited technology resources we have available in our school to motivate and support my special needs students. I must be creative to teach in a class where there are so many learning disabilities/limitations but where there are also children that genuinely want to learn.
My students are a mix of general education and special education students with various needs and deficits.
In a school known as "the school of journalism and technology," it can be a challenge to promote such an initiative with limited resources. In addition, since many of my students have certain disabilities and limitations that prevent them from being able to work and learn in a conventional manner, I try and utilize different forms of technology to motivate and help them in the learning process. As a result, my students are able to understand and function in a way that they would not be able to using conventional paper/book learning. Since some of my students struggle with motor skills, they need multi-sensory, differentiated forms of learning to truly process and learn. Technology has offered us a creative and hopeful window to support and motivate my students in the classroom.
My Project
By getting a printer for our classroom, my students will be able to see the process and finished product of their hard work come to life. Students will be able to type and print their work in various subjects, such as reading and writing. I hope to be able to create a student led printing center, similar to a newspaper printing press, which allows students to publish and share their best work in a class newspaper. My students will be able to learn the process of writing, editing, typing, and publishing as well as real world knowledge about the process of how newspapers are created.
Knowledge is Power!
In my profession, I've seen students of many ages who have been ignored, overlooked and their needs discounted because educators don't have the resources/means to support them. I am determined to find the means and resources to support my students and arm them with as much knowledge and as many tools to help them reach their fullest potential. I will continue to push my students to their very best and use any and all resources I can to reach that goal because I am their teacher.
