My Students

"Organized chaos" describes our classroom well. Students are working on a multitude of projects, each differentiated according to choice and need. It's wonderful, but can be distracting.

I teach fifth grade in a highly gifted magnet.

My students are identified as having an IQ of 145 or above and have the potential to be tomorrow's leaders. One third of my students are English Language Learners, demonstrating their brilliance despite a language barrier. Because of their highly gifted identification, I make every effort to differentiate their curriculum to best suit their diverse needs. They are exceptional but not just because of their intellect. They are truly a joy to know, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be their teacher.

My Project

My students are motivated to learn and have enormous potential. However, many of them lose focus despite their desire to progress. It is not uncommon for Highly Gifted students to be diagnosed with Asperger's or to fall somewhere on the Autism spectrum. The materials requested here will help to ensure that every student has a learning environment that supports his or her unique needs and that they will reach their fullest potential.

The noise canceling headphones will enable students who lack focus to concentrate on their work.

Bouncy Bands will provide a kinesthetic outlet for those who need to move, without disrupting the class. The light filters will create a soothing environment for those who are sensitive to excessive visual stimulation. These accommodations will tremendously improve the function of our classroom and the productivity of my students. Thank you for considering our project!
