My Students

Our students have a variety of different learning disabilities ranging from ADHD to Autism. In addition to their learning disability, all the students in my program also struggle with an emotional, behavior and/or defiance disorder.

Given the challenges they face with their disabilities, they still strive to do well in their courses and take pride in their work.

We celebrate when students reach their academic and behavior goals. In my classroom, we do not overlook skills many other students in the general ed setting may take for granted. Every achievement, no matter how small, is a win that is acknowledged.

My Project

In our special day class, we offer PE for our students. We currently have a portable basketball hoop, but it is falling apart. It is leaning forward, which makes it hard for students to shoot a ball into the basket. Basketball is very important to our students and it's a great way for them to work on team building and social-emotional skills.

Students never complain about our deteriorating basketball hoop and they deserve to have PE equipment that is in proper working order.

Kids love to play basketball and they always make the best of any situation. They still play with our current hoop, but I feel the game would be easier for everyone if they had one that worked properly.
