This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We all know that kids love recess! Just try to imagine telling 5 year olds that someone came to the school at night and stole their favorite recess toys! It was heart breaking!
My students are 24 of the most wonderful people.
They come to school with smiles on their faces, ready to learn each day. They attend Denker Ave. School, which is a wonderful place to learn and play. Many of my students, like the rest of the school, are English Language Learners and receive free and reduced lunch. I am lucky to work at such a wonderful school and with such great students!
My Project
Sadly, a few weeks ago our school was broken into. A door was accidentally left unlocked and parts of the school was vandalized and equipment and materials were scattered all over the place. Luckily, only minor damage was done and no classrooms were entered. The only thing that has not been recovered was our "taxi-trike". As you can imagine, this was our most popular trike. The children loved giving a friend a ride, I would often hear the students using their "please" and "thank yous" while using the trike. Explaining to the students that the trike was stolen was hard to do, but a good lesson for all of us. We were able to purchase a lock for the rest of our trikes and we lock them every night now. The other 2 material that I am asking for are standard balls and a new beanbag toss game. The wind storm destroyed these pieces recently. Our balls were lost in the terrible wind storm and the beanbag toss game which was already slightly broken was destroyed even more.
My students along with the other 100+ kindergarten students need new recess equipment.
Learning to play with others and being active is such an important part of their kindergarten experience and these material will bring them (and future kinder kids) hours of play and millions of smiles.
