The students involved in our All-State production of Big Fish are from all across Illinois. They are from a variety of school sizes and have a variety of theatre experiences at their school—from large programs in suburbs, to smaller programs in small schools without much support or schools in the city of Chicago without much funding.
They gathered for five weekends to learn and build an entire Broadway quality show that was the pride of the Illinois High School Theatre Festival in January.
Earning almost perfect scores, they were chosen as one of five productions in the nation to perform on the main Lied stage at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, NE in June.
As the Illinois All-State show, our costume rental was donated by the Illinois-based company, Broadway Costumes. That is not the case as we travel outside of Illinois. We are asking for $8000 to rent many of the costumes as we continue to tell the tale of Big Fish, mixing fantasy and reality and jumping decades in each scene. Each character had at least eight costumes, each with several pieces including hats and shoes. These students are loving and supportive and now they need your support!
My Project
Our students rehearsed one weekend a month for five months to create an amazing production. We were chosen as one of the main stage performances at the International Thespian Festival (ITF). Performing at the festival is amazing, but the ITF also has workshop leaders from NYC and LA, people our students in Illinois do not have access to in their everyday lives. They will get to see the best of high school theatre from around the country AND participate in days of professional workshops with professional actors, directors, and choreographers.
We are raising nearly 200,000 dollars to perform our show on the National stage.
