My students need 31 different Fly Guy books, a Fly Guy Phonics Boxed Set, and a Fly Guy stuffed animal to get my students excited about reading and help them improve their reading skills.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to hear a good story! Many of them don't have any books at home or anyone who can read to them. They need to hear enjoyable stories at school. These Fly Guy books and the Fly Guy stuffed animal will be a great way to get my students excited about reading.

I have a wonderful class of second graders.

Our school is located in a high immigrant, low income community in California. The parents of most of my students never finished high school. Many of my students will be the first ones in the family to finish high school and hopefully college, too. Most of my students are English learners whose parents are unable to read to them in English. I have several students with learning disabilities, and I also partner with a third grade buddy class and mainstream several students with learning disabilities into my all inclusive classroom.

My Project

I love introducing my students to memorable characters and enjoyable books. These 31 Fly Guy books by Tedd Arnold are exactly what I need. I will use these books as part of our language arts unit called "Sharing Stories" and also as part of my ELD lessons. In addition, 7 of these books include science topics and 3 include social studies topics that we will be learning about this year. This project has 31 different Fly Guy stories along with a Fly Guy stuffed animal. I plan on reading one of the books each day during story time after lunch.

My students are going to love hearing the stories and getting to hold the Fly Guy stuffed animal during story time.

They will also be very motivated to have the Fly Guy stuffed animal sit on their desks as a reward for good behavior throughout the day. I also will encourage my students to choose their favorite Fly Guy book and practice reading it until they feel confident that they can read the book aloud to the class. The funny easy text and the repetition found throughout these books will also greatly benefit my students who are learning English. The Fly Guy Phonics Boxed Set will be great for my students who are struggling in learning how to read.

My students love good stories.

I know they will enjoy listening to the many different Fly Guy books. I try to make my Language Arts lessons exciting so all students can be exposed to the curriculum. I want my students to be able to listen to, enjoy, practice reading, and act out these wonderful stories. I want this project to help inspire my students' imagination and positively influence many of these students to stay in school.
