Help Second Graders Come Face-To-Face With Amazing Animals
My students need an Amazing Animals Classroom Assembly to get an up-close look at some of the different animals that they are learning about in their 2nd grade science and language arts books. They also need mask making materials.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is full of future scientists including potential biologists and zoologists. We need more hands-on opportunities for my students to see and observe some of the animals we are learning about with an Amazing Animals Classroom Assembly.
I have a wonderful class of second graders.
Our school is located in a high immigrant, low income community in California. The parents of most of my students never finished high school. Many of my students will be the first ones in the family to finish high school and, hopefully, college too. Most of my students are English learners. I have several students with learning disabilities. I also mainstream several hard of hearing students and students with learning disabilities into my all-inclusive classroom. This assembly will include my class and our third grade buddy class which also includes deaf and hard of hearing students.
My Project
A traveling scientist from the Orange County Department Of Education's Inside The Outdoors program will come to my school to put on a one hour Amazing Animals Classroom Assembly for my second grade students and our third grade buddy class.
This program will include an assortment of different animals, including mammals, reptiles, and birds.
My students will be able to see, touch, and observe some of the animals that they are learning about as part of their science unit on animal classification and their language arts unit on animal camouflage. This will be an incredible opportunity for my students to see some amazing animals up-close instead of just reading about these animals in their books.
As a follow-up art project, my students and their third grade buddies will each be able to create their own animal mask to represent one of the animals that they saw at the assembly. They will be able to use crayons, markers, and other classroom supplies to decorate their masks.
These masks will be proudly displayed at our school so parents, teachers, visitors, and students will all be able to see the amazing animal masks that my students have created as a follow-up activity to our Amazing Animals Classroom Presentation.
I want this project to give my students great memories of their time in second grade and inspire them to stay in school and pursue careers in the STEAM fields.
