My students need an HP Photo Printer to have and hold onto all of the memories that they've experienced in second grade for the rest of their lives.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher in a very impoverished area of the projects of New York City. I have a class full of 24 bright, talented and loving students. My school is a barrier-free school. Barrier-free means that my schools opens its doors to every child in the community, regardless of their physical or mental handicap. It's truly amazing to see children in wheelchairs and with walkers working right alongside their peers. That's the way it should be.
At the beginning of every school year, I ask my students to bring in a baby picture, so we can create a baby book for them to have and look back at as adults. Year after year, the majority of my students say that they don't have any pictures of themselves when they were babies. This breaks my heart. All children should have pictures that carry special memories to look back on from their childhood.
During the past four years or so, I have made it my mission to take and distribute as many pictures of my students as I can. I take pictures in the classroom, outside at recess, on class trips and I will take any picture that they'd like a memory of (within reason!). I was fortunate enough to have a fantastic Canon camera donated to my class last year through DonorsChoose. The first project that I plan on doing if I receive the photo printer is having my students create an "All About Me" book using the printed pictures that we've taken throughout the school year. The HP Photo Printer will make creating these books fun, exciting, educational and simple.
With an HP Photo Printer, all of my problems would be solved! I would not have to leave the comfort of my classroom to print out pictures. My students could see the pictures as they print out as well, which would be pretty amazing. With this donation, my class this year, as well as all of my classes in the years to come will be given the opportunity to have and to hold memories from their childhood.
