My Students

No day in fifth grade is typical and I wouldn't have it any other way!! We are a diverse community of learners and our goal is to do our very best each and every day.

My students are fun, energetic, and love to learn.

I teach at a Title One school in a suburb. Many of our students come to us with challenges that are out of their control. Our community of teachers and students try every day to get past those challenges and help every child succeed.

My Project

A few years ago I made the transition from teaching solely out of our reading textbook to incorporating novels into my reading curriculum. My students have loved it! Three of our favorites: Blood on the River: Jamestown 1607, City of Ember, and George Washington's Socks have been read by many students and have seen better days. Many copies are missing pages and are literally falling to pieces. A fourth novel, Red Thunder, is a new novel I would like to incorporate into my lessons, but since I am paying for these books out of my own money, obtaining a class set has been slow going to say the least. I am afraid that my students this year will not be able to read these novels unless replacements are acquired. I am requesting ten of each copy to replenish our collections. Additionally, I am requesting clear laminate to cover the books with so they will last longer than their predecessors.

When kids have the right book in their hands, they love to read.

After all, who doesn't love a good story? The purchase of these books will ensure that my current and future students will continue to enjoy the novels previous classes have loved.
