Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Thomas Merton's quote stays true to the students in my class, "Art enables us to find ourselves and loose ourselves at the same time." Do you remember being a child in kindergarten where your days consisted of crafting and painting? Help us to use our free choice time to explore our inner artist.
I am currently teaching kindergarten at a Title 1 school.
I have 24 students in my class 13 boys and 11 girls. This bunch is very enthusiastic about art and loves to spend their 30 minute free choice block creating a variety of paper made outfits, paintings, origami, and collages.
My Project
The children will be able to use the Silhouette Cameo to create children created reading books, math manipulatives, paper costumes, and collages. The children in this classroom are encouraged to write their own books and share them with the class in our classroom library. The Silhouette will allow the children to cut out shapes more easily. The Silhouette can also be used to create art projects. Art has become a lost subject and this is the perfect way to engage the children in crafting. The Silhouette can also be used to create cuts of shapes for counting die cuts can be made where the children can count paper shapes. Creating pattern is another way for the children to develop math concepts.
If provided with a Silhouette, I feel that it will allow the children the opportunity to explore their creative side more in-depth.
Often times the children are excited to create a book, costume or collage but struggle with the idea of cutting their project. The Silhouette will allow alleviate the stress of cutting and allow them to channel their inner creativeness on the overall project.
