Help Replace Our Tank Chiller For Trout In The Classroom

Help me give my students a Chiller for our Rainbow Trout Aquarium so we can raise trout to release into the wild.

My Project

Our school’s trout tank project has become a vital hands-on learning experience for 300 students, including those in special education, English language learners, and gifted and talented programs. By raising trout eggs to juveniles, our students engage in authentic scientific inquiry and environmental stewardship. They learn about ecology, biology, and the importance of local waterways through a project that connects them to nature in a tangible way.

Unfortunately, our current tank chiller, which is essential for keeping the water temperature stable, has broken.

Without this critical piece of equipment, we risk losing our trout eggs and disrupting the learning process for all involved. The aquarium tank chiller I’m requesting will ensure our tank remains at the optimal temperature for trout development, allowing us to raise healthy fish that we will later release into a local river as part of a watershed restoration project. Our trout have been moved to another tank until our chiller can be replaced.

The goal of this project is to provide students with a unique, hands-on learning experience where they can observe the full life cycle of trout—from egg to juvenile—while gaining a deeper understanding of local ecosystems. This project also fosters a sense of responsibility as students work together to care for the fish and monitor water quality.

What makes our students special is their diversity and passion for learning. Whether they are overcoming language barriers, thriving in gifted programs, or receiving specialized support, our students are deeply engaged in learning and excited to contribute to their community. With your support, we can continue this meaningful project and ensure these young learners have the opportunity to witness science in action.
