For the many working parents, our program provides a safe and productive place for kids to be at during out of school hours when children could be facing unsupervised time. The after school program (3:00 to 5:45 p.m.) focuses on helping students complete homework and many enrichment activities occur during the week. The program provides a sliding scale fee so everyone can attend.
I am a small dot in their day and use every minute I have, showing them, anything is possible if you just open yourself to new and exciting experiences. Learning is fun and isn't doesn't always come from a pencil and paper. Our students don't want to leave when parents show up. Several will ask parents to come back later that they are busy. "This is the best part of school!".
My Project
Students who read these graphic novels find reading fun and begin to read more for enjoyment! Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is the perfect way to build better readers. Comic books are a gateway to better reading skills for reluctant readers.
My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them and they read independently!
Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. My students will love getting their hands on these graphic novels.
