My students are a diverse group of individuals with a passion for science and learning! GCHS serves students from a rural and mostly agricultural community; these students are no strangers to hard work. The students' dedication to science education and their college and career aspirations have increased enrollment in more advanced science courses, engineering courses, and our STEM Team, which is wonderful and amazing; however, this increase requires more resources and materials.
I will stop at nothing to provide the high-quality educational experience these future scientists, engineers, and visionaries need!
My Project
I recently inherited a few old, dead CPUs that I used to show my STEM students about computer hardware components. I allowed them to disassemble the computers as I explained the placement, connections, and functions of each component. The students were incredibly enthusiastic and excited to explore more about computer hardware; many of them have been researching components and how-to articles concerning building their own computers.
Despite not having the resources to explore beyond reading and dreaming, these students constantly probe the computer science realm by asking me questions and performing independent research.
These students are so passionate about understanding how computers work and are built that I desperately want to give them this experience and possibly inspire a future computer scientist.
The components I have selected will allow me to teach my students the basics of computer hardware AND allow them to use this knowledge to not only build their own computer, but to use it by venturing into the realm of software and hopefully programming.
