This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When our classroom door closed on March 13th, my students and I said goodbye with hopes of coming back into our second home within a few weeks. My students were confused, scared, and worried. So was I, but I knew that my job was to reassure them, and provide the best teaching and support I possibly could. My students and community mean so much to me, and I know just how much they rely on our school and the programs it offers. I teach at a Title I Span School, and am both lucky and proud to say it's in the community where I grew up. Our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and even supper, therefore, being away from school has been a burden on families.
Those weeks have turned to months, and with the news of beginning the school year with virtual learning, I’m hoping to provide my new students with materials they will need to support their learning.
Their desire to continue learning was immense, yet many families were unable to provide their children with the materials that would help support our distance learning.
My Project
The materials requested will allow students to take notes as they read and write about their reading. They will write to multiple writing genres, and will be able to express themselves in written form. Students will use their whiteboards to create and solve problems, and support discussions with their classmates. They will be able to express their ideas and share them with our class during our virtual meetings.
By providing materials, such as markers, pencils, rulers, scissors, and more to my students, I hope to provide a sense of comfort and normalcy, and ensure that lack of materials isn't something that impedes their learning.
