My Students

I am a teacher/librarian at an elementary school that serves many Navy and Army families in Hawaii.

The library is the center of encouraging literacy on our preschool through sixth-grade campus.

About half of the students at my school are military dependents who move locations every three years. During the pandemic, some of my students are one hundred percent distance learners but the majority are now on campus every day. I conduct research lessons with my older students and they continue to borrow books from the library using a take-out system.

My Project

The books in this project will fulfill two project goals.

Due to the recent COVID-19 economic downturn, my school's budget is very limited, and I won't be able to purchase new books for this school year.

For the first goal for this project, I will use the picture books during my lessons to discuss social emotional topics and current events. The "Hello World!" book will be used to discuss the relationships we have with others and the meaningful connections we make. The Joe Biden and Kamala Harris books will be utilized for research lessons on leaders in the current national government.

My second goal is to provide copies of the newest books in popular series such as Wings of Fire and Whatever After for my students. My upper grade students are constantly asking if I have the newest book in the series so your donations will help me fill out the series. I'd like to encourage students to keep reading these books while they are interested in them.

I have also included a few other just released picture books and graphic novels in this project. These will be promoted with my students for independent reading and for other classroom lessons.
