My students need underwear and socks. We have a constant request for underwear and socks, especially for our younger children. These are items that are rarely donated to our program and are a huge need.
Our public schools have almost 14,000 students. We find great joy working with students in our public schools. We are writing today, to ask for your help with students who have many needs and the ones who often fall through the cracks.
One of our biggest requests for our students is underwear, socks, and hygiene items.
We see so many of our children without these basic items. We know that when having to choose between bills, food, and clothing some of our parents simply do not have the resources to provide everything needed. Children who do not have enough food and adequate hygiene items in their homes are at risk. Studies have found that children who face food insecurity and having access to proper hygiene has been associated with health problems and may hinder their ability to function normally and participate fully in school and other activities. Students who do not have clean or functioning clothing tend to be absent more.
Last year was our first year in helping our students with over 650 students needing our assistance. This year have helped over 2000 families and children though our program.
My Project
Imagine coming to school without underwear or socks. It happens in our schools everyday. Providing these items for our students in need helps them to focus more on their school work and less on the stress of not having basic needed clothing to keep them warm and secure. We have many, many families that are struggling to provide housing and just paying the bills. Many times there is just not enough left to provide some basic needs.
Providing basic needs for our children makes a huge impact on their lives.
It helps them to know that they are not alone. They have people who care for them. They can focus more on school and not worry about how they will get their need met. Providing hygiene and basic needs helps those families ease the burden of needs for their children.
Please help us in providing these most needed items for our students. The Round Table provides this service to all of our schools in the PPS system, over 14,000 children. We cannot do it without the generous donations of people like you. The smallest things like socks and deodorant brings so much joy and peace of mind to our children. Thank you for thinking of our students and their needs.
