My Students
Students in my school come from over 80 different countries and over 50 different languages are spoken in the building. Needless to say, there are many low-income students that face many challenges daily.
Chess club has become a place where students go before they start their weekend to have fun and advance their game.
The club started out with about 10 members and has already more than doubled in size in only 5 weeks worth of meetings. The students are competitive and respectful, and have the drive to reach their full potential.
My Project
The chess club has grown more than expected. We started with around 10 members, and in only 5 weeks of meetings, we have more than doubled the amount of students that attend each week. We currently have 7 chess boards, 3 of which I've bought myself.
Some students are coming to club as beginners, while many are intermediate and advanced.
I've included chess boards that help teach, as well as chess clocks to make sure each student is addressed through this project.
Chess club meets after-school on Fridays, so I truly have students that are enthused about the game coming to play each week.
