Help Pre-K Students Learn to Love Books and Storytelling
My students need story-telling kits and the corresponding books to help make our story-time engaging and exciting.

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine hearing a four-year-old say, "Can I take an apple home? We don't have a lot of food in my house."
My students are growing up in an unsafe, extremely economically disadvantaged neighborhood.
As Pre-Kindergartners, this is their first experience in school. My students are learning to love school through our exciting hands-on, experience-based classroom. Unfortunately, my school is lacking tremendously in resources and funding, and we were provided with hardly any materials.
Every day, students in my classroom have story-time, and they gather on the carpet as I read a picture book aloud to them. In what should be an extremely engaging part of our day, many of my students are lost. Some are confused because they are English Language learners, others because they simply do not have the attention span to listen to a full story, and others still because they have not been exposed to the sophisticated language of literature. Many of my students do not have an adult to read to them at home, and are simply not exposed to stories enough to strengthen their comprehension skills.
My Project
I need to instill a love of literature, but it is difficult to do so without the engaging books we so desperately need at the pre-k level. I am requesting story-telling kits along with their corresponding books. If students are able to tell and/or watch the stories with puppets and figurines, they will be more engaged and have a better understanding of the books.
It is so important that my students learn to love books at this early age.
Students need to look forward to story-time, and these story-telling kits would be an exciting and engaging addition to our classroom.
