As a Head Start teacher in a low income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they always come to school ready and willing to learn. I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, brilliant and eager to learn.
They like to draw, they love counting songs, listening to stories, rhymes and finger play. They love learning about and exploring this big beautiful world that we live in and they thrive on lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Despite the odds stacked against them, my students show persistence in their daily challenges and long to show others how capable and smart they truly are.
My students have been going to stem lab classes at our school and they are fascinated that the older grades are learning about robotics and coding. However they were disappointed to learn that they would have to wait until they were in at least fourth grade before they got a chance to work with it. Imagine that waiting four years to learn something that they have a clear interest in learning now. We need your help. With the Botley bundles and activity packs my PreK students will work in groups of three to learn coding. They will learn critical skills of working together towards a goal. The Botley robots will help my prek students to develop creative problem solving and computational thinking skills, while promoting social and physical development.
