Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help us understand and accept people with disabilities. All of the books on our wish list will help us increase our understanding of the difficulties people face every day. We want to understand, so we can make a difference in others’ lives!
Our learning community is located in a diverse, high poverty, urban city in Illinois.
A high percentage of the students are bilingual, with English being their second language. All students are increasing their English language acquisition skills as well as improving their reading skills at a rapid rate. Our middle school is working diligently in order to meet the state's academic expectations.
My Project
With these novels, my students will be able to engage in literature circles. Students will be allowed to pick a novel that interests them, suits their reading ability, as well as coincides with the unit theme. In this unit, students will learn about intellectual, physical, emotional, and behavioral disabilities.
By donating these books, my students will be able to practice their reading skills, gain more knowledge about those around them, and become more empathetic citizens.
It is our hope that at the completion of this unit, students will be more apt to assist and befriend students in our school and community with disabilities.
