My Students
Do you remember the first time you took a photograph with instant film???...that magic of seeing your photograph develop right in front of your eyes. Now with digital technology digital cameras offer students the chance to see their results right away, increasing their learning.
My students come into my class thinking photography is just about pushing a button but once they see there is so much more about photography, they become very eager to learn.
While they love using film they love to see the results of what the shutters and apertures do to their photograph instantly on a digital camera. My students have voice and a story to tell even if they do not at first realize it. I want to help them find that voice and tell the story of their lives through the use of photography both film and digital. These cameras will allow my students to take better quality photographs which will get them excited to work with them on photoshop and print them out for display!!!
My Project
I am asking for three digital SLR cameras and three memory cards for my students to share. With a digital camera, students can adjust the aperture and shutter speeds and instantly see how they will affect the outcome of their photograph and then later apply these settings in creative ways in what I call finding your voice. My class is heavily based on story telling through photographs and finding their own voice. Digital cameras provide instant feedback for them to learn faster. They will then be able to put their new found skills to use exploring who they are as students, teenagers, family members, friends, etc. Students will use the digital cameras to create inspiring, compelling and thought provoking photographs.
This project is important because my students have great stories to tell through their photographs and by learning digitally you see vast improvements not only in their digital work but also on film and in the darkroom.
There is nothing like getting instant feedback that technology can offer photo students these days to help keep them inspired and motivated.
