Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
There are 32 students in my 1st grade ICT classroom. My students are from low-income families. Many of the students have limited resources at home. We are currently in a classroom where there is very limited space and no rug to create a learning/meeting area.
Many students have IEPs, special services, and ENL services.
Since our students have a variety of needs, we want to create a welcoming and warm environment for our students to learn in. Our students benefit from routines and organization so they can be comfortable and ready to learn.
My Project
We are requesting several different items to help supplement the classroom in order to make learning more streamlined. We need clipboards to allow students to take their work to other areas of the room to focus. Due to the small space of our classroom, table space is limited and clipboards would provide a flat surface for writing on the floor. We are also requesting a math numbers chart because our students have just finished counting to 100! Our next step is to count to 120 and the numbers chart will provide much needed visual supports to our students, especially our special needs students.
Our special education students are not getting the tools that they need!
Our special education students have been recommended floor seats with backs because their back muscles are not yet developed enough to sit on the floor for extended periods of time. Even though they require this accommodation, our OT department has no funds to purchase the seats. The students are struggling during whole class lessons because they are uncomfortable and are distracted. Having the seats would allow those students to comfortably join the class to attend the whole class learning.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
