My students need proper footwear on the football field. This project will supply 10 pairs of quality football cleats for students who are unable to supply their own.
"We're always near you ready to cheer you, true we'll always be. Fight Fight Fight! Proud of our colors, strong and united come on team let's go! We'll fight, we'll win, we'll give our all!"
These words are no stranger to anyone who's attended a sporting event at our local middle/high school.
Our one building school houses Pre-K all the way through 12th grade, but don't take what we lack in size as a measure of what we have in heart and spirit. Whether it's our fans cheering from the sidelines at a volleyball game, or the team getting pumped up for Friday night football, you can not deny the amount of energy our little community can bring.
These students are who I was. I grew up in this same little community, playing on the same courts and fields, and it is the passion of the students and staff that made my decision to come back and help this little community grow. Now as an educator, I am honored with the same opportunity to help inspire these students.
My Project
"We're from Onamia, what does it even matter?"
These are the exact words heard the other night during one of the evening practices of Onamia Junior High Football.
It's no secret that our school has passion and heart, but sometimes students and coaches alike can lose sight of that when faced with the difficulty of a tough practice or lack of resources.
Some of our young athletes are on the field right now without proper footwear. As a coach, nothing breaks your heart more than an athlete who can not financially afford to participate. No student athlete at Onamia is turned away due to their inability to afford sports equipment or apparel. This sometimes means coaches must get creative; I myself recall volleyball games where I have taken my own tennis shoes off to trade with a student and ensure that they had proper footwear on the court.
With your help by donating to this project, Onamia Middle school will increase the quantity and quality of football cleats that student athletes can borrow for the season in order to be safe and perform at their very best. This will not only allow us to cycle out some of the cleats that do not have much life left in them due to many seasons on the field, but also increase the amount and variety of sizes we have available to offer students. This will ensure that any student, regardless of their shoe size, will have quality footwear on the field.
As educators, it is our goal to guide our students towards academic achievements. W are not only guiding our student athletes to "March to victory", like in our fight song, but towards passion, skills, and lessons they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
