Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

When I enter our school, I often desire to improve the gardens that surround the perimeter of the school. As a school that strives to make our students college and career ready upon their graduation, what better way to give them employable skills by curating, planting, and caring for a flowerbed that surrounds our schools?

As part of our NYS Regents track courses, we learn about the lifestyle of plants, the differences between annuals and perennials, and the process of how plants make our planet a better place.

With classes, all day filled with hands-on and visual learners, what better way to teach the plant unit, than by implementing a hands-on unit that entails the planting and caring for raised vegetable garden?

Every bit will help my students vastly improve our school grounds while getting hands-on exposure to NYS Regents-based topics, and learning employable skills as they do it. Furthermore, the sale of these beautiful flowers when grown will help promote an understanding of financial literacy for my students they otherwise would not be exposed to! Every bit helps improve our outlook and sense of pride in our school community.
