This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
In our science class students in the 6th grade participate in Socratic seminars to expand their thinking, as well as take part in the Space Station Challenge. Now we want to compete in the FIRST LEGO League robotic competition. We need your help to expand our engineering skills.
Our students are young, smart and hungry to build and learn.
They are future inventors and engineers who would like the opportunity to compete with other students of like minds and spirits. We are a new science school located in the heart of East Flatbush and our students would like the opportunity to build robots, program them and solve real world problems at the FIRST LEGO League competition next fall.
The materials we are requesting will allow our students to program their robots and to run their programs in order to practice. We are forming our teams and need the right kits to practice and learn how to use our robots, and maneuver through the obstacle course before going to compete. This is the only way to close the gap between us and other schools lucky enough to have the right benefactors and financial support to allow their students to compete. Our goal is for our students to reach the highest mountain and to not allow anything such as financial limitations to limit their opportunity to compete at the FIRST LEGO League Competitions. These kits will also support students in our STEM programs, as we will be using our robots for experiments in the classroom as well. Students will learn how to incorporate algebra and engineering to solve real-world problems.
Donating to this project will open the doors of engineering, construction and team work to our students.
As Junior Engineers, Mathematicians and Programmers, our students will be able to decide early in their academic lives if these careers are of interest to them. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to compete, meet and make new friends and to support their fellow classmates during competition, as success builds their self esteem.
