Help me give my students access to a collection of books on world history and culture that reflects the diverse cultures that make up our student body.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love to learn about other cultures! They are avid readers, not only of fiction, but of non-fiction as well. Unfortunately, their ability to pursue their interests in non-fiction is heavily limited by our library's outdated non-fiction collection, one of the most limited sections being the geography and history collection. The majority of our geography and travel books have copyright dates in the 1990s. What's more is that the majority of our resources are on North American and European countries, which does not reflect the identies of the vast majority of our students.
By supporting this project you will help us to develop our school library's outdated and limited geography collection into one that reflects the many diverse cultures that comprise our student body.
Over half of our students are of latin american descent, very proud of their cultures, and always ask me for books so that they can learn more. However, most of the time I am unable to provide resources for them. In fact, up until this year we had zero books on central american countries outside of Mexico, despite the fact that the cultures of places like El Salvador and Guatemala make up a major part of our culture here in Los Angeles.
In this project, I have compiled a list of books on Latin American countries to get us on track towards diversifying our geography collection. My end goal is to develop a passport to reading program to encourage our students exploration of history and culture.
More than half of students from low‑income households
