LES is a large suburban school with 800 students. The school serves a wide range of ethnic and culturally diverse students. Our classroom is an inclusion classroom. There are three special education students, three Intervention & Referral Services students, and five Basic Skills Instruction (Title I) students. My hard-working students are so determined to improve their reading skills, but they do not have access to books or a computer/internet at home. It is up to my co-teacher and I to help these kids improve their reading skills and strategies.
The kindle tablets will encourage our students to want to read more and learn a love for reading. Receiving a Kindle Fire tablet will allow my students to access the world around while playing educational games and activities, reading books, and researching areas that interest them.
School may be the only place some of my students have the opportunity to engage in activities that involve the most up-to-date technology.
Being that this is an inclusion classroom, the special needs children will greatly benefit from having the Kindle Fire tablet. The Kindle provides many educational apps and games that will ignite an authentic enthusiasm for learning through technology. Using the Kindle Fire tablet during centers, my students will have differentiated access to materials that cover all curriculum areas pertaining to Reading.
Please set my students learning on fire by funding our project!
