This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A group of our Springfield Central Eagles recently visited a homeless shelter and donated bags to the homeless. These bags contained items to help those less fortunate have a slightly easier time while they were struggling. Several weeks ago, they served the homeless with the help of teachers who used their own funds to purchase the items for each bag. The students were so excited after seeing the smiles of those they were helping that before leaving the parking lot. They are already planning what they want to give those less fortunate.
The Eagles were excited and nervous for this project, they wanted to help those less fortunate but were not sure of how they would be received.
Many of our students come from single parent families who have no income coming into the home yet that never crossed their minds. They were ready to get to work. Weeks later, they are still talking about that visit. The sense of pride in these student's body posture and smiles has brightened the hallways here at Central.
It is because of the kindness and support from organizations like yours that we are able to create an environment where students can learn that helping others is just as important for the students as it is for the individual. Your donation/contribution highlights how working together as a community, no matter how big or small, that helping those who are down will and can build a better and more equitable future for all.
