Our band program has been underfunded for a long time. We are a Title I school with many low-income students, but we have found a way to keep our program going over the years. We have a proud tradition of making music for parents, the school and the community. Our students come from diverse backgrounds.
Some of the goals we share as members of our band department are to promote, provide and encourage interest and participation in music, to develop individual musical talent, to increase musical skills and knowledge, to instill values of effort, sacrifice, cooperation, fellowship, self-discipline and dedication, to serve the best interests of the student, school and community, and to always strive for excellence.
Our bands perform at pep rallies, football games, marching competitions, parades, concerts, graduation, and other community events. In 2017, our "mostly freshman" Marching Band came in the last place in the State Marching Competition Semi-Finals. One year later, our Marching Band became a State Finalist and finished the season in the TOP 5 1-A Bands in the State of Florida.
My Project
Crash cymbals are designed for the explosive, crashing and exciting moments in percussion play. When accidentally played at unintended, inopportune times, they can change the feel and design of the music. The crash cymbal stand will help us avoid these unfortunate moments in a performance.
The freestanding percussion table is where we would place sticks, triangle beaters, mallets, tambourine, sleigh bells and other items when not being used during a musical piece.
This also helps in avoiding unintended percussive sounds. Together with the other requested items, I hope to provide our students with more of the tools they need to become more proficient musicians.
