My students need headphones, wipes, colored pencils, pocket folders, composition books, crayons, scissors and tape to be part of a new classroom in which they are engaged and able to participate!
My middle school students have hearts of gold. They come to school ready to learn and push themselves to learn everyday! We make progress each and everyday, and I couldn't be happier with their abilities, personalities, and love for life. Each and every kid makes me want to be a better person.
We are a middle school Special Day class that is full of fun loving, big hearted, ready to learn students.
They take each task given to them and make attempts to complete the task with the greatest amount of accuracy possible. Often times, my students need supplemental and additional materials in order to learn certain academics. Repeated exposure and varieties in learning, help to increase the rate in which academics are mastered. My student love visuals and games. iPads can give them an opportunity for another way to learn. We work in a school that is very supportive of all students and because of this, we are very successful.
My Project
My students learn in many different ways. We vary class instruction so that they have an opportunity to gain knowledge as quickly as possible. Currently, we have a set of iPads that we have received from out counter SDC class. This is about the extent of materials given to us. This year we are opening a new math and science class in which we will use these iPads, in addition to as many hands-on projects as we can do. We are an SDC class with learners of all levels, and this opens up a wide range of materials needed. To start with, we need headphones so that the students can listen without disturbing others while they gain knowledge in the content area. There are endless amounts of math and science apps that can support student learning. In addition, this class plans on being a very hands-on class. We are looking for supplies that allow the students to engage in one another. We do much of our work in small group. Groups are organized using binders, dividers, data composition books and pencil cases holding materials needed to be in the group. Each pencil case holds pencils, erasers, scissors, and colored pencils or crayons. This allows the children to have materials to help create and learn. DTT, or discrete trial training is one of the most commonly used strategies when working with students with special needs! This is intense trial training for both the adults and the students. We need these trials colorful, dependable (that's why we laminate everything), and engaging.
Have you ever walked into a SDC room?
There are so many materials and requirements in order to access curriculum for these students. Lets make it happen!
