Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Ms. Salinas and Mrs. Ghigliotto have teamed up in an effort to have our school be 100% single-use plastic free.
Our students are deeply passionate for learning about environmental conservation and how our actions have an impact on the environment.
Throughout the year, we study the effects that single-use plastic has on our environment, specifically our oceans.
My Project
Our classes will be conducting a single-use plastic water bottle trade-in event. Students at our school will be encouraged to trade-in 100 single-use plastic water bottles for a new reusable aluminum water bottle. Each single-use plastic water bottle will be recycled for a California redemption value. The redemption money collected will allow us to continue to buy more reusable water bottles for the students at our school site, creating an ongoing effort to end the use of single-use plastic at our school. These reusable water bottles will help us along the way.
The reusable water bottle trade-in project will help our school kick start its 100% single-use plastic free campaign.
Students will learn the negative effects single-use plastic has on our environment and ways to avoid using single-use plastic in their daily lives.
