Help our Pre-K Enhance Music and Art in the Classroom!
My students need books that we can sing such as, "Over the Rainbow" and art supplies such as dot paints and Pom-poms.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine hearing a four-year-old say, "Can I take an apple home? We don't have a lot of food in my house."
My students are growing up in an unsafe, extremely economically disadvantaged neighborhood.
As Pre-Kindergartners, this is their first experience in school. My students are learning to love school through our exciting hands-on, experience-based classroom. Unfortunately, my school is lacking tremendously in resources and funding, and we were provided with hardly any materials.
I believe that music and art are both extraordinarily crucial pieces of our pre-k curriculum, and we make sure to incorporate both into our daily life in the classroom.
My Project
With books that are also songs, my students can sing along as I read to them at story-time. They will be able to look at the pictures to visualize the lyrics. Many children around the world have the opportunity to learn classic songs such as "I Love You! A Bushel and a Peck," and "Over the Rainbow" with their families, but most of my students do not have that opportunity. The only place they will learn these songs will be at school, and these books will help them do that.
With the art supplies requested, students will be able to express themselves, their knowledge, feelings, and ideas, through their art work. Dot paints enable students to paint who don't yet have the fine motor control to use a paint brush. Pom-poms can become a collage piece, or someone's head in a family portrait, or a section of the body of a caterpillar. Rolling pins allow the children to roll out their play dough, to make a pretend pizza or pancake. Cream of tartar and salt allows us to make the play dough.
These materials will help our classroom continue our work in music and art, both of which we believe are so important.
Please help these four-year-olds in the Bronx get the art exposure they deserve!
