it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine hearing a four-year-old say, "Can I take an apple home? We don't have a lot of food in my house."
My students are growing up in an unsafe, extremely economically disadvantaged neighborhood.
As Pre-Kindergartners, this is their first experience in school. My students are learning to love school through our exciting hands-on, experience-based classroom. Unfortunately, my school is lacking tremendously in resources and funding, and we are provided with hardly any materials.
Our class has story time every day, where the children gather on the carpet as I read aloud to them. My students truly love listening to stories, but are beginning to become tired of the books that we have.
My Project
With new books, my students can rekindle their excitement for story-time. Many of the books requested here are part of the "Elephant and Piggie" series by Mo Willems, where my students are currently familiar with only two books. Through reading about these familiar characters in new plots, my students will be able to discuss character development and make predictions based on what they know about Piggie and Elephant. The other books requested will help my students to remain engaged in story-time as they are new and exciting stories that we have yet to hear.
These books will be an asset to our classroom.
My students have learned to love listening to stories. We need new books to make sure that story time does not become boring and to make sure that my students retain their love of literature.
