This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine hearing a four-year-old say, "Can I take an apple home? We don't have a lot of food in my house."
My students are growing up in an unsafe, extremely economically disadvantaged neighborhood.
As Pre-Kindergartners, this is their first experience in school. My students are learning to love school through our exciting hands-on, experience-based classroom. Unfortunately, my school is lacking tremendously in resources and funding, and we were provided with hardly any materials.
My students love stories, and are constantly asking if they can bring their favorites home to read with their families. As my students do not have access to a school library, and most of their parents do not bring them to a city library, my students do not have any opportunity to read their favorite books from school with their families.
My Project
With multiple copies of our favorite books, we can create a Lending Library in our classroom. Students can learn the experience of signing out a book, taking it home to read with their families, and bringing it back to school to trade for a new book. As our school does not allow families to come into the classrooms, this will be one way to strengthen the home-to-school connection.
My students deserve the experience of borrowing a book to read at home with their families.
The books requested in this project are some of their favorites, and they would be so excited to share these stories at home.
