Help Our Literature Circles Break Reading Barriers

My students need 4 flash drives and 10 sets of books to expand their reading choices with titles from, "Last Dragon" to "Mockingjay".

My Students

Over the past year, I introduced literature circles to my students and found that there is a reader inside each of them. Finding the book that awakens this reader is the challenge that these books will help to overcome.

I have taught for 23 years, but just discovered literature circles last year.

With limited school funding, personal money, and donations, I was able to gather enough books to start my circles. This is where the magic started. My students blossomed into readers, thinkers, and activists. They realized that they can and should make a difference because they found characters with which they could identify. I need to increase my library so that I can touch even more students and inspire even more greatness from them.

My Project

My students test scores have improved with literature circles; their positive behavior and desire to help one another and their fellow man increased; their confidence in themselves improved; and their desire to read shot through the roof. These books create magic in literature circles by increasing the resources that are available to my students. Without donations, these books will be unattainable for my students because school funds aren't there to purchase them. My students crave books; help feed their hunger.

School funding is being cut yearly.

I have purchased many books on my own, but I can't continue to do so. My students need these books to expand their horizons, increase their proficiency, and improve their test scores and their future opportunities.
