This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to have someone read to you? My students are 5-year-olds who desperately need to be read to! Many of my students speak another language at home and lack the English practice to read on their own. This is where you come in! Please help us develop pre-reading skills!

My students are a diverse population of 5-year-olds.

They come from all over our city to our magnet school. My group of amazing learners has some special education children, many children who have had preschool, and many still who are seeing the inside of a school for the first time. In addition to being enthusiastic, my students possess a love of anything having to do with literacy centers! They are at their best when working on activities in small groups, and they thrive when using our TAG Readers and Books. Since our TAG project was funded, the students have gotten SO much use out of the TAG Readers! We are limited on the amount of books we have, and the kids are beginning to ask for some new titles. It is impossible to blame them - they want something new and exciting to read!

My Project

I am requesting 19 TAG Books and 6 TAG Cases to hold our pens, headphones and books. These resources would make it easy for my students to grab a case and walk away with a new book and all of their materials in a compact carrying case. With a larger selection of books, my students will be engaged with the stories and will have a wide variety of resources to choose from. It is my expectation that these books will fuel their love for reading while developing sight word knowledge, decoding skills and concepts about print. Studies show that children benefit greatly from being read to, which makes listening centers so essential in the classroom! With these TAG Readers, my students will have built in, portable listening centers at their levels.

I have never seen a listening center as successful as these TAG Readers.

My students argue over who gets to use them...and sometimes, they even choose to work on them during their recess time! A tool as powerful as this should be used to its full potential, and these resources would allow my class to broaden their reading materials and engage with new texts... ultimately drawing their interests more and more toward reading!
